Direct payments for health care: information for pilot sites

Direct payments for health care are monetary payments made by PCTs to individuals to allow them to purchase the care they need. They are one mechanism for delivering personal health budgets, and are one of a number of tools for making the National Health Service more personalised and patient centred.
Information on the regulations governing direct payments in health was published on 15 July 2010 on the DH website. The aim of this document is to assist primary care trusts to meet the requirements of direct payments. It is written to reflect the requirements in the National Health Service (Direct Payments) Regulations 2010. National Health Service (Direct Payments) Regulations 2010. It also includes some ideas and information about best practice when delivering direct payments.
